Ex-MIller Now A BEAVER

Goalkeeper James Holden has become the 16th player to sign for Hampton & Richmond Borough ahead of the 2025/26 season. Holden started his career at the Reading Academy, and also played behind Beavers new signing Alan Massey at Maidenhead. Spells at Dulwich Hamlet and Hemel Hempstead followed. Last season Holden made 26 appearances for Aveley in the National League South.

Vastly experienced goalkeeper and Beavers manager, Alan Julian said “I really liked him when we played against them last season, so much so at the end of the game I made a point of going over to him and told him how well he played. I’ve taken an interest in his game ever since, and gone back over the videos and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen. James is someone with so much potential, has got a huge kick, and is very comfortable on the ball, which will fit exactly with how we want to play this season. Physically he’s extremely imposing, and I noticed that in the summer when he came to the club for a chat! He ticks a lot of boxes for us as a goalkeeper and a person, so I’m really happy to get him on board, and obviously really looking forward to working with him.”

Holden who is 6ft 4in had this to say on joining the Beavers. “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Hampton & Richmond Borough Football Club. It’s a club with a strong identity and a real commitment to playing football the right way, which really appealed to me. The manager, being a former goalkeeper himself, was a big draw — not just because he understands the demands of the position, but also because I’m keen to learn from him and continue developing my game under his guidance. I’d describe myself as a technically strong goalkeeper, having come through Reading’s academy, but I also bring the physicality and presence that’s needed at this level. I’m looking forward to bringing those qualities to the team. It’s also great to be joining a dressing room with a familiar face in the likes of Alan Massey — that always helps you settle in quickly. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully play a big part in what’s shaping up to be a really exciting season.”
