Welling-born Billy is a former Charlton Athletic U18 captain, where he was part of the same side as former Beaver Lucas Ness. French enjoyed eight years at the Valley, and spent his final three seasons with the U21s (where he played against N'Golo Kante), before departing in 2023. He moved to Tonbridge Angels for the 2023/24 season, and spent the second half of the season on loan at Erith & Belvedere in the Isthmian League South East. In June 2024, Alan Julian signed Billy for the Beavers.
