Fixture Focus: Torquay United (A) 10/1

On Saturday January 10th, Hampton & Richmond Borough travel to Devon to take on 5th-placed Torquay United.

Due to the inclement weather in recent weeks, this tie will be the Beavers’ first in the new year, with both the Chesham and Enfield matches being postponed.

Which means HRBFC’s last run out was the 2-0 Boxing Day away win against Farnborough, in which Craig Fasanmade returned to the scoresheet and the young loanee Aaron Lacey added another late on.

Saturday’s opposition have also seen their matches in 2026 cancelled thus far, last turning out on the 30th of December in a 0-0 draw away to Bath City.

They picked up four points from four games in December, beating Weston-Super-Mare but losing against AFC Totton and Tonbridge Angels.

In November, they won five of seven, including a 7-0 trouncing of Eastbourne Borough and a 3-2 victory over league leaders Worthing.

They are a free-scoring side, netting the second most goals in the league on 46 and having the second-best goal difference on +19, only behind Worthing in both categories.

It comes as no surprise that they’ve had multiple players near the top of the National League South scoring charts.

Striker Louis Dennis arrived in the summer from League Two Bromley and has racked up 13 goals so far. He was nominated for the November player of the month after a hattrick against Eastbourne Borough as well as two braces, with one coming in that big win against Worthing. He sits fourth in the scoring charts.

His partner in crime Jordan Young, another summer addition, sits one place behind him on 12. The 26-year-old former Scottish youth international also has ten assists so far this season.

They are anchored at the back by a familiar face in former Hampton & Richmond Borough loanee Sam Dreyer, who netted against the Beavers in the reverse fixture at the beginning of the season.

A lot has changed since the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Beveree in early September, but the positive result combined with the refreshing atmosphere around the squad with the additions of several players courtesy of new manager Alan Dowson, the squad will go into the clash optimistic of returning to Southwest London with a good result.

Recent history at Plainmoor is also a reason to be confident, having picked up an impressive 1-0 win at the ground last season.
