Beavers To Take On The Wanderers

Beavers To Take On The Wanderers

By Lloyd Hassell
Hampton & Richmond welcome Dorking Wanderers to Beveree Stadium with both sides looking for victory.
Dorking Wanderers are a relatively new football club with the club being formed in 1999. The team began their journey in the Crawley & District League while playing at Big Field Brockham. Many promotions followed with the club moving to its current home, Meadowbank Stadium. The side’s rise up the divisions continued with a promotion to the National League South occurring in the 2018/19 season after winning the Bostik League Premier Division by 22 points. Success continued as Dorking Wanderers gained promotion to the National League South in 2021/22 after beating Oxford City and Ebbsfleet United to reach the National League. A two-year stay in the fifth tier of English football ended last season, with the team now second in the National League South at the time of writing.
Coming into this fixture, both sides are in a good run of form as they have picked up twelve points each in their last five National League South matches. In Dorking Wanderers last fixture they picked up all three points with a 3-1 home victory against Slough Town, with Jason Prior scoring two of the goals. The Beavers similarly won as they scored two goals in the final nine minutes of regular time to secure victory at Beveree Stadium.
Jason Prior and Alfie Rutherford are the two danger men for Dorking Wanderers as they have scored 12 goals each so far this season. In particular Prior is in great scoring form with four goals in his last five National League South appearances. James Roberts leads the way for Hampton & Richmond with 11 goals. Mauro Vilhete is another player that could cause the visitors problems with the number 20 scoring four goals in his last five matches.
These two sides have faced each other five times with Hampton & Richmond winning two of these fixtures. Dorking Wanderers have won just once with the other two matches ending in a draw. The last time this fixture was played was on Saturday the 19th of March 2022 when a four-goal drama happened at Meadowbank. Josh Taylor opened the scoring for the hosts. The Beavers fought back though as Kyron Farrell and Dean Inman turned the match around. Wes Fogden equalised with fourteen minutes of regular time to play as both teams had to settle for a point.
