Hampton & Richmond Football Club will be playing at home this Remembrance weekend, against Maidstone United.
As part of Remembrance, a two minutes silence will be observed prior to kick-off, in conjunction with a reading of 'The Ode of Remembrance' and a reciting of the last post. Both sets of players will gather around the centre circle during this ceremony. A wreath will also be laid by a member of the Hampton & Richmond youth.
Upon entry to Beveree Stadium, fans will also be greeted by local cadets selling poppies, to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
The club is also happy to announce that it has signed The Armed Forces Covenant. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
Jim Menday, former member of the SAS, and the clubs Chief of Staff, was delighted with the news.
“Hampton and Richmond FC are honoured and pleased to announce the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives”
As a mark of respect here is a short poem by John McCrae titled ‘In Flanders Fields’
In Flanders' fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders' fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe; To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high, If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders' Fields."
