Beavers and Seagulls battle out 0-0 draw at The Bev

Hampton & Richmond and Weston-super-Mare both took a share of the spoils on Tuesday night at Beveree Stadium, as defences came out on top in a 0-0 draw under the lights.

The Beavers put in a solid display throughout against a side who are 2nd place in the National League South and Alan Julian’s men could have won the game, but neither side could find a breakthrough.

The away side got off to a fast start, forcing Ted Curd into a save from Harvey Greenslade within the first minute of the game.

But The Beavers quickly came into it, George Hunt and Ibrahim Jalloh both seeing shots saved within moments in the 11th minute, as Julian’s side tried to turn the screw.

The first period was an end-to-end affair, as both sides probed in search of the game’s opening goal. The visitors had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee, while Mauro Vilhete struck over the bar at the other end.

The second half was a similar story, as both sides had spells in the ascendancy but remained tight at the back to prevent many clear-cut chances on goal.

Jake Gray found a yard on the edge to see his shot saved on 66 minutes, as Hampton & Richmond went on attack after attack as we entered the final 20 minutes.

The closest we would come was when Archy Taylor’s cross looped over goalkeeper Max Harris, the Weston-super-Mare man managing to tip the ball onto the top of the crossbar. A goal kick was given, to the dismay of the home faithful.

But there was still time for a final nervy moment at the other end, as the ball broke for Sam Avery to head towards goal deep in stoppage time. Ted Curd got down fantastically to make the save and preserve a point, earning himself the Man of the Match award in the process.

We remain in 14th place after the result but have kept up our great recent record of one defeat in nine matches in all competitions. Next up, Hampton & Richmond face Chelmsford City at home this Saturday, before Slough come to The Bev on Saturday 21st to complete a quartet of December home games. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
