Fixture Focus: Weston-Super-Mare (A) 14/3

On Saturday March 14th Hampton & Richmond Borough will travel to the West Country to face 10th-placed Weston-super-Mare.

The Beaver survival chances were greatly boosted by a second win on the bounce, the latest coming in a complete performance away from home to Slough Town, beating the Rebels 3-1.

Brendan Kiernan opened the scoring with an inventive volley just ten minutes in, before a fine equalizer early in the second half by Jaiden Drakes-Thomas cancelled it out.

The lead was restored via the right foot of Aaron Lacey, as Max Kretzschmar registered his first assist since his return with a wonderful corner delivery.

In the first minute of second half added time, Harry Gardner was hacked down, and the penalty was an easy one to give for the referee. Reece Grego-Cox stepped up to take and hit the post, but the ball ricocheted off the keeper’s back and into the net for the third of the night.

The Seagulls were victorious at home to AFC Totton on Tuesday, winning 1-0 courtesy of a 19th minute strike from young forward Ollie Dewsbury.

It was the 19-year-old Welsh youth international's first strike since After arriving in January from Bristol Rovers, having made his debut  in the FA Cup third round versus Grimsby.

The win stopped a slide of four games without a win for the Seagulls, and it was just their third win in eleven games since the start of the new year, adding to a 4-1 win against Farnborough on the third of January and a 3-1 victory over Eastbourne Borough.

Despite this, they have the second best defence in the league, only conceding 37 goals in 34 matches, with NLS Player of the Month for September, goalkeeper Max Harris, keeping thirteen clean sheets.

The Seagulls have only recently fallen out of the playoff positions, and with three games in hand on some of those occupying the spots, Saturday’s opponents will still fancy their chances of competing for promotion at the end of the season.

A large reason for their league position has been striker Louis Britton. The 24-year-old has sixteen league goals this season and is currently third in the top scorer charts.

Experienced midfielder Luke Coulson has over 200 National League appearances under his belt and has seven goals and seven assists this season, and 37-year-old former Northern Ireland international Michael Smith has chipped in with an impressive haul of six assists from full back.

Last time out versus Weston it was a heartbreaking defeat at the Bev as we conceded a 96th minute goal to fall 1-0 back in October.

This will be the 22nd meeting between the two sides, with Hampton & Richmond Borough winning eleven of the previous nineteen, last emerging victorious away from home in 2019.

We are back at the Bev to face Horsham on March 21st!

There are only FOUR more chances to watch HRBFC at home this season, so don’t miss out!
