Fixture Focus: Slough Town (A) 10/3

Fixture Focus: Slough Town (A) 10/3

On Tuesday March 10th Hampton & Richmond Borough will make the short trip to Slough Town.

The Beavers will be looking to build off that 2-1 victory over Dover Athletic last weekend courtesy of a goal and assist each for forwards Ronan Silva and Reece Grego-Cox.

Before the match our number thirty-nine was awarded with both the player and goal of the month awards for February.

The 15th-placed Rebels are coming off a dramatic 3-2 away win over Hornchurch after Jaiden Drakes-Thomas scored the winner in the 90th minute.

The win over the Urchins extended Tuesday’s hosts’ unbeaten run to four games, also beating Bath City away after a pair of 1-1 draws against AFC Totton and Dover Athletic.

This run of form is indicative of Slough’s since the beginning of the year. They have only lost twice in thirteen games and have picked up 27 points from a possible 39.

As well as beating the promotion chasing Hornchurch in this run, they have also bested Hemel Hempstead, Maidstone and most impressively Chelmsford City 5-0 at the end of January.

Only four sides have scored more goals than the Rebels’ 55, and all those sides currently reside in the top six.

However, those four sides all have a goal difference above ten whereas Slough’s is -2.

Only five sides have conceded more than the London side, which is a big reason why they currently sit mid-table despite their fine goalscoring form.

They have recently had a change in between the sticks as former Beaver Adam Desbois earned a moved to Gateshead in the National League after 42 appearances and thirteen clean sheets in all competitions.

Slough has brought in Alfie Marriott on loan from Watford. He looks set to make his third appearance for the club against us tomorrow.

At the other end of the pitch there are plenty of Rebels in the Slough ranks to look out for, most notably Polish forward Wiktor Makowski.

Makowski leads his side both in goals and assists with 13 and 10 in the league respectively, most recently getting a goal and assist in that 3-2 win against Hornchurch.

21-year-old midfielder Jaiden Drakes-Thomas has 5 goals and 4 assists in the league this season including match winners against Maidstone and Hornchurch.

Fellow 21-year-old Ruben Shakpoke joined the side in November and has 6 goals in eighteen appearances, including a well-taken penalty on Saturday.

It is somewhat of a family reunion this Tuesday as striker Jordan Greenidge’s older brother Reiss Greenidge turns out for Slough. Reiss is a centre back who has won promotion from League 2 with Bolton, played in Norway’s top two divisions, and has featured eleven times for Guyana.

Last time we faced Slough we fell 3-2 back in October so will be looking to make amends.

After Tuesday’s clash, it is a trip to Weston-Super-Mare before we are back at the Bev on March 21st when we host Horsham.
